My BFF– Best Friend with Freckles

Intense Pulsed  Light (IPL) is a type of photorejuvenation  that uses  a blast of light to remove freckles, unwanted hair and  little red lines on the skin.    Often called the “lunchtime laser”  it does not burn off the top layers of the skin like a tradtional laser and the skin looks beautiful and smooth within a week.    I had IPL  last year in June  with Dr Marmur and was so pleased with the results.  I thought  it made my skin look tighter and fresher and I posted before and after pics on the blog.  My BFF ( best friend with freckles) liked  the changes so much that  she went  for her own IPL date.  I think her results were even better.  Not only does she look 10 years  younger, her … Continue Reading…

Fashion Flash Monday!

Its Fashion Flash Monday and  this week   the host is Shawna  of Fat Loss Over  Forty. After almost six months  of huddling in the heaviest sweaters I  could find its now  sleeveless dress time.  My guns are pretty white and flabby and Shawna   has great advice  for getting gorgeous arms.

And  with fitness on my mind, I  took another look at  Enter the Zone.   This is a hugely popular low-carb, low saturated diet book.  The author, Barry Sears  holds a PHd in biochemistry and is a former MIT researcher.  His interest in weight control stems from his focus on heart disease and the science behind The Zone diet is actually based on research that won the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1982.  Impressive!  The Zone Diet is certainly backed up by a boatload of science and as a former lab rat, I value that.

Real Time Beauty Questions

Sometimes anti-aging  ingredients and skin care  product descriptions sound like a review sheet  for  a medical board exam.  This week  questions about two  anti-aging ingredients sent  me to Pub Med, the  NIH online medical library for the answers.

Question 1– What is Idebenone?

This is a synthetic antioxidant that is designed to mimic CoQ10, a naturally  occurring oxidant found in our cells.  (FYI  CoQ10 which is responsible for energy, decreases as  we get older).  Idebenone is an especially powerful antioxidant, perhaps the most powerful antioxidant in our anti-aging arsenal. Antioxidants in general  help prevent aging by dealing with free radicals in the cells.  Our biggest sources of  free radicals are cigarette smoke, alcohol and sunlight.  It certainly makes sense to put antioxidnts into a sunscreen where it can do hand to  hand combat  with … Continue Reading…

Help! I was Rejected by Invisalign

Back in the fall I decided to explore ways to straighten my teeth.  Over the years the once healthy teeth had developed quite a slope and I had a full-blown overbite.  I didn’t want  to  go the permanent metal mouth route and was excited about a  program of clear plastic devices called Invialign.  Your mouth is fitted with a series of progressive  plastic trays that  slowly apply pressure to  push teeth into line. Not only does Invisalign avoid the metal brackets and wires of traditional orthodenture, it’s far  less expensive.

First step was making a plaster mold of my mouth and teeth which were then sent off to the Invisalign  HQ. I waited eagerly for the results.  And waited.  And waited.  Finally after more than two months I got the answer.  I was not a good … Continue Reading…

Is Fashion Flash Monday!

After a long grey cold winter  all our blogers are  bursting with fashion, health and beauty ideas.  And with pictures of the Royal Wedding ( and those hats) splashed across the media, we can’t help but think of wedding wear.  This week,  the host is Jodell of Black Cat Plus who provides wonderful wedding fashion advice.

And after you have explored  the Fashion Flash sites, grab a copy of New Beauty magazine. This thick mgazine is always bursting with new and detailed beauty information.  This month a favorite article looks at celebrities  who overdo  cosmetic procedures.  They include recent photos include Daryl Hannah, Meg Ryan, and Nicolette Sheridan  which show what happens  when  good people  get too much Botox and fillers.  I  have to admit that looking at the distorted appearance of once  beautiful  women  has  made me … Continue Reading…
