I’ve been a foodie since I learned how to turn on a stove at age 10- and my favorite recipe is anything that I can cook and serve at a dinner party. But in recent years friends and family have gone gluten free which has significantly limited menu options. When I spotted a cookbook that was gluten free for company and sugar free for me ( I have type 2 diabetes), I knew it had to come home with me.
Dr Gott’s first book – Dr Gotts No-Flour, No Sugar Diet was a New York Times best seller. His new book puts theory into practice. I can figure out gluten and sugar free main dishes and sides, but its the appetizers and desserts that stump me. Dr Gotts Cookbook offers easy and delicious recipes that fill in the gaps in my menus. For apps Dr Gott includes recipes for sausage stuffed mushrooms, crab filled endive spears. and a hot artichoke dip with corn tortilla chips that will rock your world. I’ve become addicted to Dr Gott’s amazing banana bread with oatmeal, blueberry crumble and a sugar free creme brulee that I had made 3x in three weeks.
There is certainly no shortage of cookbooks, but many are complicated and call for expensive or hard to find ingredients eg acai berries, manuka honey and organic miso paste. Dr Gott offers recipes that are easy, affordable and people pleasing. FYI the flour-free crepes alone earned this book on my already overcrowded book shelves.
