For some reason the idea of eyebrow tinting terrified me. I’ve been lasered, waxed, Botoxed and bleached but tinting seemed especially risky. ????? But ever the science geek, I had to try it out. After checking out several salons, I choose the Benefit Brow Bar. I had watched them work and I was genuinely impressed by the careful and individual approach they took with every brow.
My brow whisperer Shante had beautiful brows which gave me a great sense of confidence. I discussed the celebrity brow expert who had striped off my once thick brows. A year later, they had not returned to their normal fullness. Shante reassured me that it can take 12-18 moths for an over- plucked brow to recover. She primarily cleaned up stray hairs and flattened out the too round arch. Yea! She mixed a small dab of vegetable dye in a tiny cup and
Last spring I went to an expensive celebrity eyebrow expert. In less than 5 minutes he reduced my thick unruly brows to a skinny, ugly semi-circle. I left as quickly as I could muttering to myself, “at least I have bangs, at least I have bangs”
I vowed to discover the real secrets of a good looking brow. It has taken almost nine months for my brows to grow back enough to try out other brow beauty options. He explained that much of my brow was made up of thin, pale hairs and tinting them would make my brows to look fuller. This sounded reasonable but tinting is big step– and not something you do the first time someone works on your brows. Given that Mr Eyebrows left me with a thinly rounded circa 1930 brow line, I was really glad I had stood my ground. Darker thin brows would have been even more obvious and unattractive.
But the experience pushed me to get some good answers to related brow questions. For example what is the best color brow with grey hair or should your brows match your red hair? All … Continue Reading… →
Open almost any comprehensive beauty book and you will see a section on eyebrows. They offer different styles and suggest which ones are best for different face shapes. If only it was that easy. Then there is that magic formula that recommends that the brow start at the inner corner of the eye, arch at the outer corner of iris and ends at a spot that is in line with the nose. Before I had my brows shaped (erased?) I diligently studied my shape options and which ones would be best for my round/square face. But IRL it turns is our natural brow length and thickness that drives the final shape.
Brow shapes are very much like hair styles. If you have curly hair, straight bangs … Continue Reading… →
