This week Kari of Fabulous After Forty is hosting Fashion Flash! I can sort thru 20 different sunscreens to find the right one for my skin, but when it comes to make-up, I go blank. Fortunately I know Kari and her comprehensive beauty site. On Fabulous After Forty I can track down the best mascara or ask a question about the right summer blush for my skin. Try it out yourself and you will never again waste time and money on make-up failures.
Fashion Flash Book Review: The Lost Art of Dress by Linda Przybyszewski
When I was growing up, the rules of fashion seemed to be set instone. Spring meant navy, winter meant blck watch plaid and … Continue Reading… →
* Geri at Fab Over Fifty turns her camera on FOF street style. She found a women who’s definitely channeling 70’s glam– shaggy vest, round shades and wide legged trousers. But did she ace this retro trend or should we send her back to Studio 54?
Its Fashion Flash Monday and this week the Glam Gals at Fabulous After 40 are hosting. What I especially love about this site is the sense of detail. For example, stripes are a big trend for spring, but can be challenging to wear. Fabulous After 40 found stripes not only in a range of tops and dresses, the Glam Gals also showed how to use the look in shoes and bags. This week Fabulous After 40 explores Missoni style patterns and showed how to create a long lean line with this bold pattern. They even found a Missoni patterned bangle to take baby steps into this bold look. Most fashion sites just show images for beautiful bone thin women in expensive clothing. Nice but not that helpful. Fabulous Over 40 drills down into every look and style to explain how to … Continue Reading… →
I’m hosting Fashion Flash this week and I am so thrilled to be the one to introduce our newest member– Deja Pseu of Une Femme d’un Certain Age. One of my all time favorites, this blog looks at life, fashion, and beauty with a keen eye and a great sense of humor. Seasoned with a love of everything French, Une Femme has a wondersul perspective for those of us that are not tall, not thin and not young. She road tests her recommendations, posts sales alerts of favorites and feels like a real friend. She even locates dresses with SLEEVES! Une Femme has an amazing community of women whose comments make me laugh, think and learn. When it comes to blogs, I tend to be a lurker, but at least once a week I just … Continue Reading… →
This week is the one year anniversary of Fashion Flash and its only fitting that the host this week are Fashion Flash founders Jojami Tyler and Deborah Boland, the Glam Gals of Fabulous After 40. I was a huge fan of their site when I first started blogging and meeting them at the More Reinvention Convention was for me like meeting Oprah. They were as smart, charming and beautiful as they seemed in their blog. When we started to talk about ways we could work together, I was thrilled to be included in the development of Fashion Flash. Its been an incredible year and now Fashion Flash has nine members and gets a total of 7000,000 views a month.
Personally, I have laughed and learned so much reading these amazing blogs each week. With … Continue Reading… →
This week the host for Fashion Flash is Kari at Fab Over Forty. She has, IMO, the best makeup picks on the web. Recently she reviewed the new Burberry colors for Spring. Too many make-up colors are either too bright, too brown or too pale for me. Kari profiled the Burberry shades that work for women who find most brands miss the mark. She spots new colors and trends and puts them into context with 40 plus beauty needs. And the Glam Gals at Fabulous After 40 offer incredibly timely fashion advice on trench coats. Apparently it is never going to stop raining– and good looking rain gear is now as important as the right shade of lipstick. Reading the Glam Gals advice this week, I am definately going out to buy that red raincaot I saw on sale at Filene’s.
This week the host of Fashion Flash Monday is Fabulous Over 40. Recently, the Glam Gals have posted about the vanishing waistline, how to wear white and today’s post is an amazing analysis of Michelle Obama’s style. They note her use of bright colors, little cardigans instead of jackets and conservative styles in gorgeous fabrics. Bottom line–Jojami and Deb make shopping fun again.
And if you’ve never read Kris Carr, you’re in for a treat. A young beautiful actress, she went for a check-up and was diagnosed with untreatable liver cancer. This news would crush most people, but Kris decided to make her journey for answers into the next stage of her life. She video taped her search for ways to deal with illness– and turned her spiritual and nutritional journey into Crazy … Continue Reading… →
I want to jump into the ” go grey/ not go grey” debate? I recently posted that covering up grey hair is one of the top five anti-aging tips. That being said, grey hair can be beautiful, but its not that easy– or for everyone. While going grey means you don’t need to get monthly tough-ups, its far from low maintenance. When hair goes grey, it changes texture as well as color. Grey hair usually becomes coarse and curly making it more challenging to cut and blow-dry.
Grey hair is also not a single color, but appears in a range of shades. Snowy white or pale silver hair has a natural glow and flatters many skin tones. ( It looks especially beautiful with pale skin and blue eyes). By contrast, salt and pepper grey has little shine and can be unflattering to skin shades with yellow or olive undertones.
