This week Shawna of Female Fat Loss Over 40 is hosting Fashion Flash. Exercise is important all year round, but I think March is when excercise needs meet a critical mass. Cold weather and hearty comfort foods make winter weight gain almost inevitable. But March means that its soon going to be time to peel off those weight conceling layers of clothing. What I love best about Shawna is that she shares fitness success stories of real women. If they can, do it so can I . Female Fitness After 40 is such a relief from the celebrity fitness concpet eg Gweneth Paltrow whose 2% body weight and highly restrictive diet is much more entertainment than advice.
I Shouldn’t Be Telling You This– Success Secrets Every Gutsy Girl Should Know
Calorie packed holiday foods and more alcohol than you drink all year can seem to add pounds and inches overnight.
I clicked through a story on the high calorie holiday foods and it was as though they were describing the content of my fridge. My Christmas Day dinner was a roast goose, filled with dried cherry and pecan stuffing with a pumpkin cheesecake for dessert. A four ounce serving of goose clocks in at 340 calories, 18 grams of fat and 137 mg of cholesterol. Scary. I decided that next year I will stick with turkey that is not only delicious it was the protein of choice for Yale … Continue Reading… →
This week Shawna of Female Fat Loss Over 40 is the host of Fashion Flash. I have to admit that I am intimidated by descriptions of celebrity fitness programs. The intensity, the pit crew of specialists to assist them, the amount of time and energy is overwhelming– and way above my pay scale. What I love about Shawna’s blog and DVD’s is that not only are the exercise programs so doable, but she shares real time success stories. When a fifty something schoolteacher works diligently to lose weight for a wedding, now that is something that inspires me. I can relate to the people who have worked her method and if they can do it, then I can too.
This week Shawna of Female Fat Loss Over Forty is hosting Fashion Flash. If there ever is a time of year to think about fitness it is right now. Blue skies and warmer weather inspire me to go outisde and shed winter weight gain. If you haven’t yet tred out Shawna’s fit camp routines this is definately the moment. I know that swimsuit weather is right around the corner.
And along with a fitness program, spring makes me think about upping my nutrional profile. I’m always struggling to get in those 5-7 servings of vegetables and fruits a day. The farmer’s markets are brimming with piles of veggies and I found a new cookbook to turn these beauties into a meal. The Inspired Vegan by Bryant Terry is a vibrant celebration of life, family and good food. The first section provides cooking techniques and simple recipes … Continue Reading… →
This week the host of Fashion Flash is Shawna of Female Fat Loss Over 40. Like many New Yorkers, I rely on walking for my daily exercise. Twenty city blocks is equal to one mile and I leave extra time so that I can walk to my appointments and get in some exercise. But when icy winter weather arrives, I have to go indoors and and Shawna has some of the best fitness programs I’ve ever tried. She is especially good at motivating reluctant athletes ( like me) and I feel better rather than achy after one of her workouts. Be sure to check her out as well as the rest of the wonderful Fashion Flash sites.
This weekend I picked up an intriguing little skin care book by an LA based celebrity esthetician. Skintervention by Scott-Vincent Borba has an interesting approach … Continue Reading… →
Its Fashion Flash Monday and this week the host is Shawna of Fat Loss Over Forty. After almost six months of huddling in the heaviest sweaters I could find its now sleeveless dress time. My guns are pretty white and flabby and Shawna has great advice for getting gorgeous arms.
And with fitness on my mind, I took another look at Enter the Zone. This is a hugely popular low-carb, low saturated diet book. The author, Barry Sears holds a PHd in biochemistry and is a former MIT researcher. His interest in weight control stems from his focus on heart disease and the science behind The Zone diet is actually based on research that won the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1982. Impressive! The Zone Diet is certainly backed up by a boatload of science and as a former lab rat, I value that.
